A pedestrian hit by a car on New Circle Road Thursday afternoon remained in critical condition at UK Hospital Friday afternoon.
The incident happened on the inner loop at Bryan Avenue just before 5 p.m. Police say the pedestrian, David L. Steinforth, Jr., was standing on the median waiting to cross the street and traffic was flowing at a normal rate for New Circle Road. Steinforth attempted to cross the road prior to traffic coming to a stop and was struck in the middle of the roadway.
Police say Steinforth was not crossing the roadway in a crosswalk and failed to yield the right of way to traffic on New Circle Road. He was transported to the UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Chevy Metro who hit Steinforth was not injured in the collision.
Speed and alcohol impairment do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The Lexington Division of Police Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate.
The road was closed for several hours after the accident.
