PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky school district is considering the option of a public school that's focused on an education in the performing arts.
The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/RefjR4) reports that district personnel are preparing a feasibility study to see if students would benefit from a school that offered classes in music, dance and theater.
Tina Hayes, who directs the district's Gifted and Talented Program, told the newspaper that there's been a shift in the focus of the program for performing arts.
Assistant Superintendent Heath Cartwright said the group studying the issue will consider need, curriculum and possible locations.
They plan to meet next month with parents to gauge support before considering the cost and other factors. Cartwright said there's no timetable on when to present options to the school board.
