One man was taken to UK Hospital after a shooting during post NCAA championship game celebrations near the UK campus.
The shooting happened along South Limestone near the intersection of Virginia Avenue around 2 a.m. Police say people in a car exchanged words with some people on the sidewalk. When the occupants of the car got out, the suspect opened fire.
"We could see the muzzle flashes. It was actually in our direction," Lexington Fire Department Major Ed Davis said.
The shooter reportedly fired off six shots.
Officials say the victim suffered a serious gunshot wound, but called the injury non-life threatening. There was no other information released on the man's condition.
The shooter disappeared into the crowd and ran behind some buildings. Police have not made any arrests.
It remains unclear whether the shooting was directly related to the celebrations.
"This might have been bad blood from a long time ago, or maybe because of the ball game...who knows?" Davis said.
Police continue to investigate.
