The search is on for a shooter, after a Nicholasville police officer was shot Friday night. It happened around 8:00pm on Maple Leaf Drive. Police say the officer saw a suspicious person walking down the road. When the officer got out of his cruiser, and went behind a house, he was shot. The bullet struck his ballistic vest. Police say the officer then fired back, but it is not known if he hit anyone or anything.

Back up officers are searching the area for the suspect. A Lexington helicopter assisted in the search.

So far, no arrests have been made. No clear description of the suspect was given. The name of the officer involved in the shootout has not been released.
