Lexington police say an officer thwarted a sexual assault inside a woman's apartment on Friday.
According to court documents, a woman living in a home on Mt. Rushmore Way told police she opened her door to see who was there, and a man ripped down a locked storm door and pushed his way inside. Police say when an officer arrived, he found the man and woman struggling on the floor. Court documents indicate the man ripped the woman's clothing off, and she told police "he was trying to rape me."
The woman suffered some minor injuries in the assault.
Police arrested Michael Anthony Kopec, 47, and charged him with burglary and rape.
