Police have released the name of a woman shot in Franklin County Thursday night after an argument between two neighbors escalated.
The scene unfolded on Manley Leestown Road. Just before 6 p.m., a woman identified as Patty Tate was shot in the head, and when police arrived, the suspect, 38-year-old Mona Maupin, still had a gun and had taken off. A KSP Sergeant found Maupin a short time later hiding in the woods. Investigators say they recovered the weapon.
The Franklin County sheriff said Friday that Tate, who was originally in critical but stable condition at UK Hospital, has been upgraded to serious condition.
Maupin is being held in the Franklin County Regional Jail. Among her charges are one count of criminal intent to commit murder, assault first, and three counts of wanton endangerment.
Police say there were three other people, including a 5-year-old who was standing next to Tate, on the porch of the home when Tate was shot.
