Police in Laurel County have released the identities of two of the victims of a crash Thursday morning that killed one person and injured six, including a pregnant woman who had gone into labor.
The accident happened just before 11 a.m. on Kentucky 229 at the intersection of Kentucky 1189, about four miles south of London. Police say apparently a 2006 Chevy Cavalier car pulled out from Kentucky 1189 westbound, and collided with a 1993 Buick car that was northbound on Kentucky 229. After impact, both cars traveled off the roadway and came to rest off the west side of Kentucky 229.
The driver of the Chevy Cavalier was identified as Ed Napier, 47, of Manchester. He received fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
The driver of the Buick, Veda Wright, 40 of Lily, received serious injuries and was airlifted by helicopter from the scene to UK Hospital. Two other passengers, whose names have not been release in the Buick car were airlifted from the scene to UK Hospital serious injuries, and three additional passengers were taken to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment of possible injuries.
The investigation into the traffic crash is continuing.
