Police have released more information on a deadly shooting on an eastern Kentucky college campus.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at the Hazard Community & Technical College around 6 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found two people dead and a juvenile wounded in the parking lot outside the First Federal Center. The shooter was not in the area, but officials locked down the campus as a precaution.
Police say Caitlin Cornett and her uncle, Jackie Cornett, were both shot and killed. The unidentified juvenile was airlifted to UK Hospital for treatment. Officials have not released any information on that victim's condition.
Dalton Stidham turned himself in at a nearby Kentucky State Police post a short time later. Police say they don't know what led up to the shooting, but say it appears it stemmed from a domestic dispute. Investigators say Stidham and Caitlin Cornett met in the parking lot to hand off a young child they have together. After the shooting, Stidham took the child back to his house before turning himself in.
Caitlin Cornett was a student at HCTC, but other than the location, the school was not connected to the shooting.
Police charged Stidham with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. They say there could be additional charges.
