Kentucky State Police investigators say a fatal Wayne County fire apparently started in a bathroom.
The fire was first reported at a home along KY-1009 around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, about 15 miles south of Monticello. Firefighters say heavy smoke was pouring from the front of the house when they arrived, and flames were visible from the rear.
The Wayne County coroner says Douglas Walker, 53, was declared dead at the scene.
The coroner says EMS took two people rescued from the home to Wayne County Hospital, where they later died. He identified them as Melvina Walker, 60, and the Walkers' 3-year-old grandson, Jaimie Elliott.
Police say a fourth person in the home got out and was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
KSP investigators say preliminary investigation indicates the fire originated in a bathroom located in the rear of the residence. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, but police say they don't suspect foul play.
