Police Say Alcohol May Be Factor In Bicycle Crash That Left Man Critically Hurt

A Frankfort bicyclist is in critical condition after falling off his bike on Louisville Road over the weekend, and police say there may be more to this story based on what they found in the man's backpack.

Louisville Road in Frankfort has the reputation of being dangerous among drivers, but when you're a bike rider trying to make it down the hills on the road, that can give dangerous a whole new meaning. That point was proven over the weekend when Frankfort police say 46-year-old Andrew Smith lost control of his bike on the road. He was transported to the Frankfort Regional Medical Center and from there was airlifted to UK Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The road where the accident happened is essentially one big hill, but officers say there may have been something else in the mix after they say they found alcohol on Smith, with several cans of beer in the backpack he had with him.

Police also say the severity of Smith's injuries are a bit of a mystery considering his bike hardly has a scratch.

Police also say the roads were wet at the time of Smith's wreck.
