A man is in critical condition after being shot in the head while driving his car on Hawkins Avenue. Police closed off the area hoping to find something that will lead them to the gunman.
Police are looking for a man they say shot another man in the head and then fled the scene. Police responded to the shots fired call just before 9:00 Sunday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, a man was driving down Hawkins Avenue when another man shot him once in the head. The victim lost control of his car, drove through a yard striking a home. They say the victim then got out of the car and ran to Pemberton Lane where he collapsed.
Investigators believe the gunman was on the sidewalk at the time of the shooting, and that's where police found several shell casings.
The victim was taken to UK Hospital in critical condition.
The robbery-homicide division has been called to investigate.
"We don't know if the victim stopped to talk to the subject or not we're too early in the investigation to know those details," says Lt. Eddie Hart with Lexington Police Department.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen or heard the shooting to contact them.
At this point police say once they find the gunman they plan to charge him with assault in the first degree.
