Police are looking for a man responsible for at least three carjackings in Lexington.

Police say the suspect uses a ruse to get his victims out of their cars, playing the role of Good Samaritan. He points to a tire, implying it's flat, and when the victim gets out to check, he hops in the car and takes off. The suspect stole Cynthia Smith's car from the Woodhill Shopping Center parking lot on Tuesday.

"I tried to grab the door; he just took off, and if I had hung on, he would've dragged me out to the road," she said.

The carjacker also took cars at the Beaumont Center and the Landsdowne Shoppes.

Police say they got a break in the case Tuesday. After stealing Smith's car, he tried to cash one of her checks at a Lexington bank. He took off before officers arrived, but left his driver's license behind.

The suspect may still be driving Smith's car, a burgundy Hyundai Sonata with tape on the passenger side mirror.
