One Powell County firefighter went to the hospital and several others received treatment at the scene after they were overcome by heat battling a fire.
The blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m. at a house along Winchester Road, just outside Clay City. Five firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and received treatment at the scene. They are expected to be OK. EMS took another firefighter to the hospital in Mt. Sterling.
There was no word on his condition.
Additional walls and ceilings inside the modified trailer made the fire difficult to fight. Firefighters say it was still 200 degrees inside this home an hour after they deemed the fire "under control."
"We're trying to exchange in and out at least every five to 10 minutes, just to keep from having this problem, and you know it is wearing us down...and you know we are having a problem with the fire," fire Lt. Stevie Townsend said.
Firefighters have not determined the cause of the blaze, but the woman who lives in the home says she suspects arson due to an odd encounter she had with someone claiming to be interested in the house last week.
Officials say they plan to call an arson investigator to the scene.
