A Powell County man who could face the death penalty in a December murder pleaded not guilty in the case Wednesday.

Woodie Sons was indicted on murder and other charges last week. Police say the mother of Charles Maggard, 42, discovered her son's body in his his Jerrica Leigh Lane home when she went to check on him after he failed to show up for work back on December 13. Police say Maggard had been beaten and stabbed with an Ale-8 bottle.

Sons remains at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center following an apparent suicide attempt in jail last month. He is being held $1 million bail.
