After three years as an assistant basketball coach at Bourbon Co. and Powell Co., Preston LeMaster is getting his dream come true. He is the Head Coach at East Ridge High School in Lick Creek, Kentucky.
It isn't everyday that as a reporter you get to talk to anyone this happy.
"I am very excited," says the former UK walk on who wore the same number as his father did when he played for UK.
"I've always wanted to do that as a kid. My dad always coached me as a kid. He was always my role model. I wanted to give back to all the kids."
The 27 year old who last played for UK in the 2005-06 season is taking his style of offense with Tubby's defense.
"We are going to try and get up and down and have a fast paced exciting offense."
"Tubby taught me ball line defense. I love the ball line defensive. I think Tubby is one of the best coaches in college basketball."
With a lot of Preston's family from Pikeville, making the move is easy.
"I'm just really excited," which is something Preston said a number of times.
"I have always wanted my own program. The day has finally come."
East Ridge's principal Kevin Justice recruited Preston for the job.
"We're very excited," says Justice. We believe he will do a very good job."
