(AP) - An inmate at the Big Sandy federal penitentiary has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing a guard with a homemade weapon that was smeared with feces.
The U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Kentucky says Steven Michael Reid was sentenced Wednesday. The 48-year-old Reid, of Norfolk, Va., pleaded guilty in August to assaulting a corrections officer and possessing a prohibited object.
The prosecutor's office says in a release that Reid stabbed the officer in the stomach through an opening his cell door, using a weapon he had made by rolling up two magazines with a sharp piece of plexiglass on the end.
The release says the plexiglass had been smeared with feces.
