Prized UK Basketball Recruit Randle Picks Kentucky

Julius Randle will play college basketball at Kentucky, he announced at a nationally televised press conference Wednesday at Prestonwood Christian in Plano, Texas.

Randle's finalists were Kentucky, Kansas, Texas and Florida. ranks Randle as the second-best recruit in the nation in the Class of 2013

The 6-9 Randle is an athletic power forward who can run in transition with the fastest of breaks. Randle missed most of his senior season after fracturing his right foot against Duncanville on Nov. 24. He returned to Prestonwood's lineup Feb. 15.

In five games after returning from injury, Randle averaged 28.8 points and 15 rebounds, including 32.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in the state semifinal and final.

Before the TAPPS state tournament Randle said his shooting touch and vision had mostly returned to full strength, but he was still working on conditioning to get more explosiveness back into his legs. Randle said there's no pain in his foot and watching him practice shows nothing but energy and enthusiasm to be back on court.

"If you watch him, you'd think he is 100 percent," Prestonwood coach Chris Mayberry said. "But if you know him, you know he's still got more in him."

On March 6, Randle was added to the East roster for the McDonald's All-American game in Chicago on April 3. Randle will play for the USA Junior National Select Team that will compete in the Nike Hoop Summit on April 20 in Portland, Ore and will play in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Randle has been one of the most-decorated Dallas-area high school basketball players in recent memory. He was named SportsDayHS' Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and garnered first-team all-area honors in 2011 and 2012. SportsDayHS' 2013 all-area team will be revealed Thursday.
