We've got some cold air coming next week...in fact it looks like it's the coldest air of the season so far.
However, as cold as it may be it's going to be nothing like what occurred 19 years ago on January 19, 1994. It was the coldest airmass we've ever recorded in Kentucky as Shelbyville plummeted to an amazing 37 below zero. There were several other states that set their record lows as well.
On that day Lexington levelled off at 'just' 20 below...which was the 2nd coldest temperature recorded in Lexington. With our temperatures early next week around 10 it will be cold, but nowhere near what happened 19 years ago.
