A man attacked and robbed in front of the library on East Main Street in Lexington is in critical condition at UK Hospital. Police have arrested 24 year-old Scotty Matlock, charging him with robbery and fleeing and evading police.
It's the second assault in that area this week, and both attacks happened in broad daylight.
Police say Matlock hit the man over the head several times, so hard it knocked him off his feet. Once he was down, police say the robber kicked him, went through his wallet, took what he wanted, and ran off.
Minutes later, the man was wheeled away in a stretcher, his face badly bleeding. People who were in the park shortly after the attack, can't get over it.
"Take it somewhere else. I don't think that was necessary what went on right now," says Michelle Odom, who came by Phoenix Park shortly after the attack.
She says there needs to be more police presence out there.
"You got kids coming here and now it's going be where their parents are going to be scared for them to come here on their own to try and learn something," Odom says.
Monday, a man sexually assaulted a 17 year-old girl outside the Fayette County Circuit Courthouse. Police are still looking for that man.
