What began as a small control burn in Rowan County of some cardboard quickly got out of control this afternoon. A fire spread from a man's backyard into the woods near Rock Fork Road. This "off-season" blaze has burned about a dozen acres- and came very close to destroying a couple homes.

Firefighters from local, state, and federal levels are helping out. They are currently digging a barrier. They expect to have it fully contained very shortly, and, ideally, put out by tonight.
