A lightning strike from overnight storms could be the cause of a fire at the Kentucky Transportation District 7 salt dome early Monday morning.

A jail sergeant walked out and spotted smoke around 6 a.m. and called 9-1-1. A small fire that ignited at the top of the dome between the roof and ceiling was knocked out.

Small structural damage at the top was reported.
