A scholarship fund has been set up in the name of a popular Estill County musician killed in a car accident earlier this year.

Jerry Wayne Chaney, 47, was killed back in June in a wreck on Highway 52 in Madison County. Cheney was a slide guitarist and a member of the bluegrass band New River Line.

Now, Chaney's family is raising money in his name, keeping his legend alive. They have set up the Jerry Wayne Chaney Memorial Music Scholarship Fund. The money will help students who want a career, or want to further their education, Relatives say it's what Chaney would have wanted.

"I think by creating the organization, it helps keep his memory and his intentions and his love of music alive," said Scott Roberts, Chaney's uncle. "Hopefully, it will help other students and people enjoy it as well."

If you would like to donate to the fund, go to www.jerrywayne.org. Chaney's family will also be raising money at the Estill County fairgrounds on September 11 during Jesus Fest 2010. They say their beginning goal is to raise $10,000 in scholarship money.
