School Teacher Charged With Murder In Fatal May Car Accident

A Clark County middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with murder Sunday in a late May car accident in Morgan County that left an elderly woman dead.

Brittany D. Williams, 23, of West Liberty was driving a 1998 Chevy Lumina south on Kentucky 7 on May 31 at about 9:30 p.m. when police say she crossed the center line, striking a 2004 Chevy Cavalier operated by Gerry N. Blackwell, 76, also of West Liberty.

Blackwell sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Morgan County coroner. Blackwell's brother, Kenny, 59, was a passenger in the vehicle also sustained serious injuries. Williams was transported to Morgan County Regional Hospital and later transferred to the UK Hospital.

The Blackwells were on their way home from the visitation of their nephew who was killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.

Williams, a teacher at Conkwright Middle School in Clark County, was arrested Sunday after toxicology results indicated drugs were a contributing factor in the accident.

Williams is being held in the Big Sandy Detention Center in Paintsville. Further charges against possibly could follow after case is presented the the Morgan County grand jury.
