A Rowan County jury came down with a recommended sentence in a 2005 double murder late Tuesday night.
Earlier, the jury convicted Ronald Fairchild of robbery, burglary and two counts of murder in the deaths of Marlene Mauk and Donald Walker. The couple was killed inside Walker's Fleming County home.
The jury recommended four concurrent sentences, meaning Fairchild would serve 27.5 years total. Fairchild could have faced the death penalty, or life in prison.
Formal sentencing for Fairchild is set for January.
Two other men, Rodney Dodson and Jason Jackson, pleaded guilty to murder charges in September. Their sentencing is scheduled for Friday.
