BURLINGTON (AP) - A barn fire in northern Kentucky has led to the deaths of several animals including horses, cows and pigs.

Burlington Fire Chief Jeff Barlow told The Kentucky Enquirer that the blaze was reported about 3 a.m. EDT Friday and by the time firefighters arrived it was too late to try to save the animals, which were mostly cattle and pigs.

Officials say hay fueled the fire, but the cause hasn't been determined.

Farmer owner Jim Walton said he is devastated by the loss of the animals and the barn, which was built in 1892. He said the barn also held grain, equipment and tobacco.

Walton said he is thankful no humans were injured in the fire.
