A home invasion led to a double shooting in Winchester early Monday morning.

Police say an intruder shot a person inside a home along Redwing Road around 1:15 a.m. The victim shot back, hitting one suspect and possibly another. EMS took two people to the UK hospital. One of the victims was reportedly unresponsive at the scene.

Officials have not released the names or conditions of the two people shot.

Neighbors say they heard three shots ring out.

Within an hour, Lexington police opened a shooting investigation when a man in his 20's showed up at Saint Joseph Hospital East suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. He was transferred to UK Hospital. Officials called his injuries serious.

Police say the man would not say if he was shot in Lexington or someplace else, but there were no reports of shots fired in Lexington prior to the man showing up at the hospital.

Lexington police say they are investigating to see if the man could be connected to the Winchester shooting.
