The start was bad for both teams. UK is up 10-8 at the second TV time out. UK is shooting 30 percent. South Carolina shooting 22 percent. South Carolina comes out from the opening tip playing hard.
With the score 12-11 UK, if you added up both teams shooting percentages, combined they were at 47%.
Plus, with UK quickly missing 13 shots, it amazing that the rebounded ten of them. What might be more amazing is UK, normally very good at second chance points had only six, and they are much bigger than South Carolina.
Play of the game so far is a Willie Cauley-Stein block that leads to a slick lefty layup by Aaron Harrison. UK goes up 15-11.
Cal gets a technical with 5:50 left in the half. He's been screaming at the officials all night, so it's not a surprise. Julius Randle and Willie Cauley-Stein, mostly Julius tried to calm Cal down. Cal told Julius, "I'm fine."
South Carolina is playing really hard. After the two free throws by Brenton Williams from the techicals, UK led 23-21.
South Carolina grabs the lead 26-25 with 3:21 to go with Duane Notice's bucket. UK can't throw it in the ocean, hitting only 19%.
South Carolina leads 31-28 at the half.
Julius Randle has 5 points and 8 rebounds, but he's missed all five of his shots from the field.
UK has shot only 17% for the first 20 minutes. They didn't have a field goal for almost the final eight minutes of the first half. They are also crushing South Carolina on the boards 30-15.
South Carolina forces Cal to take a time out with 18:40 to go. Chatkevicius fast break dunk has the SC crowd crazy. UK is down 35-29.
With the score 39-29 South Carolina, a technical foul is called on UK's bench. Cal has a heated discussion with UK assistant Orlando Antigua after the call.
10:25 to go, Cal gets tossed for his second technical foul. Williams makes both free throws as South Carolina goes up 53-39. Randle got stripped of a rebound and Cal thought it was a foul. With Cal screaming all game at the officials, who knows if it was this play, or a bunch of plays that got him tossed.
UK goes on a 14-5 run with John Robic in charge. James Young's 3 makes it 57-53 South Carolina.
Andrew Harrison getting switched out against SC big man, Laimonoas Chatkevicius might have iced the game for South Carolina with his easy bucket inside. 66-61 South Carolina with 44 seconds left.
UK doesn't quit. They are going for a miracle as they score six points in five seconds to cut it to 68-67. Aaron Harrison with a three. Then James Young's defense sets up Julius Randle's three point play with 22 second to go. It's Randle's first basket.
But, South Carolina hangs on to win only their 4th SEC game of the season 72-67.
Aaron Harrison was only 4 of 16 from the field, but he led UK with 21 points.
Julius Randle had 10 points and 15 rebounds, but he was 1 for 7 from the field.
UK shot 27% from the field, hitting on 14 of 52 shots.
UK owned South Carolina in the battle of the boards, 46-28.
