Southern Winter Storm Snarling Air Travel

A powerful winter storm tracking across southeastern states is impacting air travel across the nation.

Delta Airlines, with its main hub in Atlanta, reported over 1,500 flights by Monday morning.

Delta has already cancelled five flights from Lexington for Monday - three to Atlanta and two to Memphis. A U.S. Airways flight to Charlotte was also cancelled. Four inbound Delta Atlanta flights are also scrubbed, along with the 11:05 a.m. arrival from Memphis.

Even if your flight does not go through Atlanta, or another southern airport, you should still check your flight's status before heading out to the airport. Delays down line can affect flights later in the day. If you are flying out of Blue Grass Airport, you can check your current flight status here.

The storm has already dropped three to four inches of snow and ice over southern states by Monday morning. Governors of Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee have all declares states of emergency.
