A Whitley County high school teacher and state lawmaker critically injured while trying to break up a student fight underwent another successful surgery Thursday.

Family members updated Dewayne Bunch's condition on the Pray for Dewayne Bunch Facebook page.

"Dewayne has been out of surgery. The doctors say that he did very well! He is now resting! Thank you for all the prayers and please continue!"

Bunch continues to recover at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. He suffered a brain injury when he took a punch while trying to break up the fight, fell and hit his head on the cafeteria floor last April.

The two teens involved in the fight face assault charges.
