Case closed, according to an Anderson County Sheriff's detective who told the local newspaper a 14-year-old boy took three flags from the Lawrenceburg Healing Field Memorial.

The teenager reportedly admitted to stealing the flags, and detectives found them in two Lawrenceburg houses.

Marie Hellard's nephew, Cpl. Timothy Dale Lewis, died in the Philippians four years ago. His memory was memorialized at the Field until a thief took it away within the past couple weeks.

"The thefts were creating a sense of uneasiness and it was opening the wounds all over again," Hellard said.

While Rep. Ben Chandler replaced two of the three stolen flags, authorities opened an investigation and got a tip that led them to the teen.

Detectives said the thief acted alone.

Hellerd expressed a desire to reach out to the boy.

"I thought how nice it would be if I could get him to come out to our farm and just hang out and let him be a part of our family, you know, and just show him there's a human side to the act."

The teen wasn't arrested or charged, but a complaint was filed against him.

Police did not release his name because he's a juvenile.
