The Laurel County sheriff has issued an alert for people in the southern part of the county after a string of vehicle break-ins overnight Sunday.

Deputies responded to several homes along American Greeting Road after thieves broke windows out and stole items from at least three vehicles.

The sheriff said he thinks the thieves targeted vehicles with valuable items visible inside.

Officials say deputies will increase patrols in the southern part of the county.
