Summer officially begins on Saturday. We always talk about the meteorological summer starting June 1, but with the solstice Saturday morning it's officially here in all its glory.
With the solstice the sun will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer at 6:51 am. During Saturday afternoon the sun will be the highest in the sky it gets all year, so take notice midday. If you were in south Florida it will be almost directly overhead and in the Caribbean it will be straight up. Also note your shadow (or lack of it) at the time. We'll have the longest daylight hours and the shortest night as well.
So rejoice in the fact that another summer season is upon us and for the folks that don't like summer know that the days will slowly start getting shorter after this weekend.
