A weekend camping trip in Jessamine County took a deadly turn when a camper was hit by a falling rock.

Deputies say Luke Riddering, 19, was camping with friends in the Brooklyn area of the county Saturday morning when a large rock hit him on the head while he was sleeping.

Riddering, a college student in Lexington, was rushed to UK Hospital, where his family said they were told he wouldn't make it. He died Sunday from his injuries.

"You're in denial," described Luke's brother, Jeff Riddering. "You can't believe he could actually be that injured and it took us a while to even believe that he wouldn't be coming back. And I believe he is in Heaven with Jesus."

Funeral arrangements for Riddering are pending.
