A woman escaped her burning home in Powell County Tuesday afternoon, thanks to the quick thinking of her step-grandson.

The fire broke out in a trailer along Dogwood Lane around 3:30 p.m. Tyler Watkins, 15, went inside of the burning home and brought his grandmother, Rose, out before firefighters arrived.

Oxygen tanks inside the trailer started exploding as firefighters battled the blaze.

"But training took over, and they went in and extinguished it, and no one got hurt, that's the main thing," Stanton Fire Department chief Eddie Barnes said.

The trailer was a total loss.

Barnes says the family told him they had been having electrical problems for the past six months, but he wouldn't rule that as the cause of the fire.
