Lexington police are investigating a string of vehicle break-ins and a joyride in a stolen car from an area near the UK campus.

Police discovered an abandoned car in the middle of Iron Works Pike, near Newtown Pike, around 1 a.m. Friday. Investigators say somebody stole the vehicle from an apartment complex on Horsemans Lane, just off Red Mile Road, sometime Thursday night. A window was smashed in and a CD player stolen, according to police.

Police say they also received several other reports of smashed windows and thefts from cars in the Red Mile Road area. Investigators say they don't know if the thefts are all connected.
