Three firefighters were hospitalized after battling a blaze that destroyed a Mercer County home Monday evening.
More than two-dozen firefighters from four companies responded to a home on Irish Ridge Road around 8 p.m. after a passing motorcyclist spotted flames and called 911. The Mercer County fire chief says two firefighters were overcome by heat, and a third stepped on a hose and twisted his ankle while fighting the fire. All three were treated and released at a local hospital.
Firefighters say a family of four lived in the home, which was undergoing renovation. Nobody was inside the house when the blaze broke out. The fire destroyed the home and everything inside.
Officials say it appears an electrical issue sparked the fire.
The Red Cross has been called in to help the family.
