State Police have confirmed that three people were killed in an accident on I-75 in Whitley County Friday afternoon.

The accident happened between mile markers 18 and 20 at about 3 p.m. So far, there is no word on how many vehicles were involved or what caused the accident, and both the northbound or southbound lanes were closed until southbound lanes were re-opened just after 5 p.m.

Northbound traffic is being diverted at exit 15, and let back onto the interstate at exit 25.
