Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Gordon Hayward scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as 11th-ranked Butler earned a 73-62 win over Davidson in the regular-season opener for both teams at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Willie Veasley added 15 points, while Matt Howard and Shawn Vanzant each went for 10 apiece for Butler (1-0), which finished with a 26-6 mark a year ago, good enough to earn a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Ben Allison went for 13 points and seven boards, while Brendan McKillop added 11 points for Davidson (0-1), which went 27-8 in the 2008-09 regular season and earned its fifth straight postseason appearance.

Ian Clark scored 14, Keaton Belcher 12 and Mick Hedgepeth 10 for the Bruins.

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - Manny Harris finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the second triple-double in school history, as 15th-ranked Michigan blew out Northern Michigan, 97-50, in the season-opener for both schools. Harris joined Gary Grant in school annals, as Grant recorded the other one in the 1987 NCAA Tournament against North Carolina. DeShawn Sims finished with a game-high 22 points to go with 10 rebounds for the Wolverines (1-0), who are coming off a successful 2008-09 season. In John Beilein's second year as head coach, Michigan won 21 games last season, an 11- game improvement from Beilein's first year. The Wolverines also made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years and reached the second round before losing to Oklahoma. Matt Vogrich added 15 points in Saturday's victory, while Darius Morris and Zack Gibson each scored 11. Marc Renelique had 11 points to pace Northern Michigan (0-1), a Division II program that went 11-16 last season. Renelique also grabbed six rebounds.

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Steven Pledger made eight of his nine shots, including a 4-for-5 effort from three-point range, en route to a game-high 21 points, as 17th-ranked Oklahoma defeated Mount St. Mary's, 95-71, in the season opener for both teams. Tiny Gallon recorded a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Sooners (1-0), who went 30-6 last season and advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to eventual national champion North Carolina. Willie Warren totaled 15 points and 11 assists for Oklahoma. Jeremy Goode poured in 18 points to pace the Mountaineers (0-1), who finished 19-14 last season. Jean Cajou scored 13 points, while Shawn Atupem and Kelly Beidler each donated 10 points in the loss.

Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Chris Wright picked up where he left off last season, scoring a game-best 25 points to go along with eight rebounds, as 21st-ranked Dayton shook off a slow start to rally past Creighton, 90-80, in the season opener for both teams. Chris Johnson notched a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Marcus Johnson donated 13 points. Dayton shot 49.3 percent from the floor in the victory. However, the Flyers (1-0) made just 9-of-27 from beyond the arc, including an 0-for-4 effort from Marcus Johnson. Creighton was led by P'Allen Stinnett's 18 points and Wayne Runnels' 16 points. Darryl Ashford donated 13 points, while Ethan Wragge and Cavel Witter recorded 11 points apiece for the Bluejays (0-1).

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Iman Shumpert poured in 18 points, as the 22nd- ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets opened the 2009-10 season with a 100-59 blowout of the Florida A&M Rattlers at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Gani Lawal added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (1-0), who finished 12-19 last season. Derrick Favors ended with 10 points and eight rebounds, and fellow freshman Brian Oliver chipped in with 12 points for Georgia Tech, which shot 48.1 percent from the field. Christopher Walker ended with 15 points and five boards for the Rattlers (0-1), who went 10-21 last year. Brandon Bryant tallied 14 points for Florida A&M, which shot just 36.2 percent from the floor.
