Prepare for a major traffic issue in downtown Lexington beginning Friday.

Crews will block one lane of Newtown Pike in both directions between Fourth Street and West Loudon Avenue for construction work on the new Bluegrass Community and Technical College Campus. The lanes will remain shut down 24/7, and work is expected to last about a week.

Officials say motorists will likely experience backups both inbound and outbound, and advise avoiding the area if possible.

Also keep in mind the Sweet 16 basketball tournament continues at Rupp through Sunday, and UK will face Florida Saturday afternoon, adding to the downtown traffic woes.
