A truck carrying 88 cows overturned Wednesday night in Frankfort, trapping many of the animals inside a trailer.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. along Owenton Road, near the intersection of Peaks Mill Road.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the driver loaded the trailer at Owenton Stock Yards. He was heading down Owenton Road, when he lost control, flipping the truck.
The driver walked away unharmed, suffering just a few scrapes and bruises.
Firefighters cut off the trailer's roof and loaded the cows into another vehicle.
Jeff Sutton witnessed the accident.
"Owning livestock myself, it's heartbreaking because you wonder - you know - what happened to the driver, and the livestock thats still trapped in the back of the trailer," he said.
Crews on-scene said some of the cows escaped after the crash. Neighbors in the area spotted cows wandering around a nearby subdivision. As of 5 a.m., 10 cows were still missing. It's not clear whether the cows died, or remain on the loose.
The road was closed for about 6 hours. It reopened around 2:30 a.m.
