Two Arrested After More Than $4,000 In Fake Cash Found

More than four thousand dollars in counterfeit money is off the streets in Jackson County and two people have been arrested in the case.

Police say they responded to a call at a home off of Highway 30 East in Tyner around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The investigation led them to a neighbor's home, where they found the stash of fake cash.

Police arrested H.P. Malicoat and his wife Denna Reid in connection with the money and drug paraphernalia. Travis Cox, who was also at the home was arrested on an outstanding warrant and drug possession.

Malicoat and Reid told police the money was given to them by someone who had purchased a four-wheeler from them. However, police say their story doesn't add up.

The Secret Service is involved, and trying to track down the source of the $4,100 in fake cash.
