Two Elementary Schools Temporarily Locked Down After Apparent Domestic Dispute

Two Lexington elementary schools were locked down for a short time Tuesday morning following an apparent domestic dispute that began at a nearby apartment complex.

The incident started at an apartment complex on Martha Drive after several calls were made to police that a man was on the roof of one of the buildings and was believed to have a gun and might possibly be suicidal.

Police say the man, David Cox, then left the roof and walked toward both Dixie Elementary and Yates Elementary schools. Police quickly caught up with him, and Cox claims he never had a gun, and police say one was not found. Both schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, but were quickly given an all-clear.

The mother of Cox's child told police that Cox had stolen her gun, but no gun was ever found.

Police said that while Cox will likely not face any charges for the incident unless a gun is found, he was arrested and taken to Anderson County, where he had two active warrants out for him, one for driving on a suspended license and one for hunting without wearing an orange vest.
