Two Families Homeless After Powell County Fires

Two fires Monday in Powell County left two families homeless.

The first fire happened on Lower Cane Creek at about 7 a.m. in Stanton. Firefighters say the family who lived there lost everything, but no one was hurt.

The second fire happened about 45 minutes later on Nolan Circle just off Hardwicks Creek Road. In that fire, officials say a man, his fiancee and their three children all got out okay, but the home is a total loss. The Red Cross is providing a place to stay for the family.

The family that lost everything in the second fire is no stranger to tragedy. The man who lives there lost two children in a fire in Winchester in the early 90's.
