Two people were sent to the hospital after a crash on Newtown Pike near Citation Boulevard in Lexington Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a sedan was coming out of Olivia Lane when it was struck by a semi in the outbound lane of Newtown Pike. Police say the truck driver tried to avoid hitting the car, but couldn't stop in time.

Both the driver and passenger of the sedan, whose names have not been released, were sent to UK Hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries and is expected to be released later Wednesday. The passenger of the sedan sustained life-threatening head injuries. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
