UK Hoops Player Comments After 61-41 Win Over Navy

Sophomore Guard Jennifer O'Neill
On playing an NCAA Tournament game close to home:
"I had a lot of family and friends here but the game wasn't big because of them. The game was big because it's the NCAA Tournament and we have a goal of making it to New Orleans. That's what made this game big."
On support from family and friends:
"I was excited to come home, but it's more so because it's the NCAA Tournament."
On importance of getting to a fast start for the second half:
"Coming in from where we were at half time, Coach was talking to me about not being passive and trying to set the tempo so the team can start going and in the second half that's what I tried to do.
On individual performance impacting team's performance:
"I do feel like I'm changing the game because my teammates start going. Coming into a media timeout, Coach Mitchell ran out to me and he was telling me that ‘now we are playing like this because you are playing defense and you are being intense on defense'. I was getting stops."
On Navy getting a good start to the game:
"I felt like we were just a little rusty. We haven't played in a couple of weeks. I think we played hard, tried to stay focus and not let that bring us down. That was adversity that we did face. The team did a great job just keeping our heads up and knowing the game is 40 minutes."
On the score being close for much of the game:
"Not playing for a couple of weeks definitely is why we were rusty. Knowing we have to rely on our defense, going and getting stops and pushing the ball, then things will eventually fall in. We just have to stay together as a team."
Junior Forward Denesha Stallworth
On importance of getting to a fast start for the second half:
"I thought it was very important. I felt that Jen [Jennifer O'Neill] did a great job pushing the tempo, knocking down threes from the kick outs from the double teams. I think she really set a great pace for the team and I think we just continued to play hard and we got the W."
Senior Guard A'Dia Mathies
On going 0-5 from the field:
"I just didn't make any field goals. My teammates stepped up and made a lot of shots and enough for us to win by 20."
On Kentucky's style of play:
"I think we just played tenacious defense. We have a motto, come 40 minutes. So we're going to come and give it our all for both halves for the time being. We know there's going to be subs, so we just have to play as hard as we can. We give it our all."
