A University of Kentucky professor arrested Tuesday for alleged sex crimes was placed on indefinite administrative leave by the university on Wednesday.
According to court documents obtained by LEX 18, Dr. Robert Tannenbaum, 68, engaged in sexual acts with a relative four to five times a week between August 1998 and June 1999. The relative was in eighth grade at the time.
Tannenbaum faces four counts of incest. He was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home along Hickory Hill Road and taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
Tannenbaum pleaded not guilty in the case Wednesday afternoon. His next court date is scheduled for March 17.
Until being placed on leave, Tannenbaum served as the head of UK's Eureka Research Program. He is also the editor of the Kaleidiscope, the university's journal of undergraduate scholarship, and the coordinator of the Beckman Scholarship Program. According to Tannenbaum's Web site, he served on the board of directors for the Kentucky chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
In an interesting side-note, Tannenbaum's Web site also shows he once served on the board of directors for Brooklyn's chapter of the ACLU when it was the first in the country to call for the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
