Lexington police say that a University of Kentucky professor arrested Tuesday was involved in sex crimes.

According to court documents obtained by LEX 18 overnight, Dr. Robert Tannenbaum, 68, engaged in sexual acts with a relative four to five times a week between August 1998 and June 1999.

The relative was in eighth grade at the time.

Tannenbaum faces four counts of incest. He was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home along Hickory Hill Road and taken to the Fayette County Jail.

Tannenbaum currently serves as the head of UK's Eureka Research Program. He is also the editor of the Kaleidiscope, the universtiy's journal of undergraduate scholarship, and the coordinator of the Beckman Scholarship Program. According to Tannenbaum's Web site, he served on the board of directors for the Kentucky chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

In an interesting side-note, Tannenbaum's Web site also shows he once served on the board of directors for Brooklyn's chapter of the ACLU when it was the first in the country to call for the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Tannenbaum is set for arraignment in Fayette District Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
