Where does UK stand when it comes to quarterbacks in the SEC?
ESPN ranked the 14 teams. Georgia's Aaron Murray, who has thrown 59 touchdowns in two seasons, is No. 1. Arkansas' Tyler Wilson, who some might like better, is number two. They have Tennessee's Tyler Bray No. 3. With Bray, the question is can he stay healthy. No. 4 is Alabama's AJ McCarron, who would be higher on my list because of how he dealt with the pressure in big games.
Some might have guessed that UK with their group would be 14th. They are No. 12.
"Maxwell Smith was far from perfect last year, but he took advantage of his time on the field," says ESPN. "After replacing the injured Morgan Newton late in 2011, Smith was named to the SEC's All-Freshmen team. He also seemed to improve this spring with Newton watching and rehabbing. Newton's time as a starter could be over, but both will be pushed by incoming freshman Patrick Towles, who might be more physically gifted than the two ahead of him."
But, when ESPN ranked the quarterbacks as individuals, Max Smith came out last at No. 10.
To some, that remains the number one question going into training camp for Kentucky. Can Patrick Towles push his way to the top? His goal is to be the starting quarterback when Kentucky opens up against Louisville.
