On Monday night, one man was recovering and two other men were on the loose, after a shooting near the University of Kentucky campus.
Police said a student had been shot in the back on Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. after an attempted robbery involving drugs. It happened at a house on Elizabeth Street, and nearly 24 hours later people in the neighborhood were anxious because no one had been arrested.
On Sunday 22-year-old Ryan Jennings had been shot in the back. Officials said he has serious injuries, but will live. He is the victim of a violent crime, in an area neighbors never expected one.
"We were scared. We were thinking that we had never heard of that happening on our street," said Ashley Mcintosh, who lives on Elizabeth Street and is a student at UK.
Chris Lee also lives on Elizabeth Street and is a senior at UK. He said he never thought the neighborhood so close to campus would have this type of crime. "I was pretty shocked, certainly a little uncomfortable knowing it happened right around the corner," said Lee.
Police said two men tried to rob Jennings outside his home. They ran off when his roommate fired a warning shot from a rifle. However, police said there is more to the story. They think the men were trying to steal Jenning's drugs.
LEX 18 News found pictures of pot on an Instagram page registered to Jennings under the name thegrassman24. LEX 18 News crews were also there on Monday when Jenning's girlfriend, Ainsley Murrell, was taken from the home in handcuffs. Officers said they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police charged Murrell with trafficking marijuana.
Whatever happens, people in the community want two other people behind bars. "I hope that they get caught and they get taken off the streets," said Dan Ross who is a Lexington resident and former UK student.
Police said they only have a vague description of one of Jenning's attackers. He is described as a black man in his 20's and was last seen wearing a red jacket.
