It felt just like the start when UK played LSU in the quarterfinal game. Florida hit back-to-back three's by Michael Frazier II. Coach Calipari called a quick timeout down 6-zip. Dakari Johnson also picked up two quick fouls, which meant a lot of first half minutes for Willie Cauley-Stein.
The Wildcats got on the board thanks to an Andrew Harrison jumper and they went on a little bit of a run to get back within one. A big dunk by Cauley-Stein and a couple of free throws by Andrew pulled the Cats within one at 9-8.
UK trailed by just two at 14-12 when the Gators went on a 9-4 run capped off by a Scottie Wilbekin three pointer. Florida taking a 25-16 lead.
The Cats tried its best to hang in there as Alex Poythress got a bucket as he was fouled. He'd hit the free throw. Then, an Aaron Harrison bucket would cut the lead back to eight.
But, the Gators can hit you with a quick scoring spurt and that's just what they did. A Wilbekin three, then turnover by Andrew Harrison would lead to a Chris Walker jumper along with a Poythress foul would lead to 14 point lead in 25 seconds of game action.
Alex Poythress got a basket late and Cauley-Stein added a free throw to keep the Cats within 10 at the half, 40-30. UK did not hit a three ponter in the first half. Poythress leads the way with 7 points in a balanced attack for UK.
